(See Police Gazette , 1886, page 17.) Andrew Gordon, charged on warrant with embezzling money at Tomahawk, the property of William Sanderson, has been arrested by Constable William Stream, Ngapara Police, and remanded to Dunedin.

Between 11 p.m. on the 29th and 5 a.m. on the 30th ultimo the gate of the pound at Hawera, the property of William Jackson, was broken open, and two horses, the property of Robert Hamilton, which were in the pound, released.

During the night of the 24th ultimo a turnstile in Lewis Street, Gladstone, near Invercargill, the property of the Gladstone Corporation, was maliciously broken, and damaged to the extent of 10s.

Between the Ist and 18th ultimo several pieces of iron were maliciously placed in sheaves of oats at Charing Cross, Ashburton, which, when the oats were being threshed, damaged a threshing-machine, the property of James W. Oliver, to the extent of about £5. Mr. Oliver guarantees £lO reward for the arrest and conviction of the offender.

Owen Connew, better known as Owen Connal, is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with having, on the Ist instant, at Wellington, assaulted George Peck, a bailiff of the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, while in the execution of his duty. Description: Irish, a groom and labourer, thirty-five years of age, about sft. 7in. high, slight build, dark complexion, hazel eyes, dark hair beard whiskers and moustache ; generally wears dark-tweed suit and hat. He is supposed to have gone to the Wairarapa.

Morrice Kerr is charged, on warrant issued by the Greymouth Bench, with having, on the 4th instant, at Greymouth, obtained a scythe-blade, value 75., and £9 13s. in money, from Harriet Jane Masters, by means of a valueless

cheque. Description: Irish, about thirty-five years of age, sft. 7in. high, stout build, florid complexion, fair hair, reddish side whiskers and moustache, chin shaved; wore a short dark coat, grey-tweed trousers and vest, and dark softfelt hat. He is supposed to have gone towards Kumara, Ahaura, or Reefton. He recently resided at Grey Valley.

On the Ist or 2nd instant, at Waikuka, Canterbury District, the knotter, value £l, was maliciously taken off a reaper - and - binder machine ; the property of Crossleigh Dampier Crossley.
