The sum of £lO has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable James Siddells, Ormondville Police, in recognition of his praiseworthy exertions in assisting to save property and rendering aid to the settlers burned out during the recent fires at Norsewood and Maketoku. Constable Siddells has been specially promoted from second- to first-class constable. The sum of £2 10s. each has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Detective Alexander Plenderson and Constable Bernard McLaughlin, Dunedin Police, in recognition of the zeal and ability shown by them in connection with the arrest and prosecution of Charles Rowland and William Wilson, alias Tracey, sentenced at the late sittings of the Supreme Court, Dunedin, to two years’ labour for conspiring to cheat. The sum of £l2 has been awarded to Constable Michael O’Brien, Wellington Police, for the arrest of ten stragglers from Her Majesty’s ship “ Nelson.” The sum of £1 has been awarded to Constable Patrick Leahy, Wellington Police, for the arrest of a straggler from Her Majesty’s ship “Nelson.” The sum of £5 has been awarded by the Wellington City Council to Constable Patrick Leahy, Wellington Police, in

Harnett, Lower Hutt Police, in recognition of his services in connection with inquiries relative to the removal of timber off Mr. Murdoch’s land at Mungaroa. The sum of £ls has been awarded to Sergeant-Major William Thomas Mason, Lyttelton Police; the sum of £7 10s. each to Inspector Charles T. Browne and Detectives William Livingston Chrystal, William Campbell, and Joseph Albert McGrath, Wellington Police ; and the sum of £6 each to Chief Detective Thomas Neil and Detective Maurice O’Connor, and the sum of £3 to Constable Michael Leahy, Christchurch Police, by Mr. George L. Jenness, of Wellington, in recognition of their services in connection with the recovery of a large quantity of jewellery stolen from his shop, and the arrest and prosecution of the offender, Herbert Allendale, alias Joseph Williams, sentenced at the sittings of the Supreme Court, Wellington, in July last, to four years’ penal servitude. The sum of £6 has been awarded to Constable Patrick Leahy, Wellington Police, for tho arrest of John Souch and Edwin Rolling, deserters from Her Majesty’s ship “ Nelson.” The sum of £8 has been awarded to Constable John Madden, Wellington Police, for the arrest of John White, a deserter from Her Majesty’s ship “ Nelson.”
