There were also stolen a number of silver watches, gold lockets, pendants, charms, gold wedding- and keeper-rings, and gentlemen’s gold digger- and buckle-rings, of which no description can be obtained. It is supposed that the shop was entered by means of skeleton keys.

Stolen during the night of the 21st ultimo, from the Methven Hotol, Methven, a swag, in which were a nearlynew grey-tweed paget-suit, a white-silk handkerchief with blue spots, and several other articles of clothing, &c. ; the property of Bartholomew Dunlea. The swag was found on the 29th ultimo in a gorse-fence at Methven. It contained all the property except the tweed suit and silk handkerchief, which are valued at £3 155., and identifiable.

Stolen on the 16th ultimo, from the dwelling of Charles Fowler, Grove Road, Blenheim, a gold scarf-pin with head about the size of a threepenny-piece, in which was set a

diamond about the size of a pea ; value £7 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, about forty years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, stout build, full features, brown complexion, dark-brown beard whiskers and moustache ; wore dirty grey-tweed suit (coat paget-make, and rather long for him, trousers considerably worn) and old black-felt hat. Identifiable. The pin was missed about an hour after he left the house.

Stolen between 11 p.m. on the 24th and 11 a.m. on the 25th ultimo, from a brothel in Wingfield Street, Wellington, a volume intitled “ The Book of Fate,” with red cover, value 2s. 6d., the property of Carry Miller, whose name is written in it in several places; also a whitish mother-of-pearl sovereign-case lined with scarlet leather, silver clasp and hinges, and a silk scarlet handkerchief ; the property of Elsie Vickers ; value 10s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a man, name unknown, who slept in the brothel during the night of the 24th ultimo. Description: About twentythree years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, light-brown hair, fair moustache and sidewhiskers, chin shaved, good teeth; wore dark coat, lighttweed trousers and vest, and boots with cloth tops. He said ho was steward of the steamer “ Wairarapa.”

Stolen between the 21st and 26th ultimo, from the Empire Hotel, Christchurch, a brown-ribbed rough-cloth overcoat, considerably worn, lined throughout with slatecoloured silesia, two outside hip-pockets, and a left breastpocket without flaps, lining of left pocket nearly worn out, composition buttons ; the property of James Campbell; value £l. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 25th ultimo, from a hut at Conical Hills, near Tapanui, a new paget cloth coat and vest, a spotted cotton shirt, two pairs of grey woollen socks, a cotton bag, and some collars; the property of Samuel Alexander Mclntosh ; value £5. Vest identifiable.

Between 8.10 p.m. on the 22nd and 6.25 p.m. on the 23rd instant the railway-station at Otahuhu, Auckland District, was broken into, and Bd. in coppers and ten Id. stamps stolen ; the property of the Government. An attempt was made to break open a safe which was in the office.

Stolen on the 12th ultimo, from Burn Cottago, near Cromvyell, six £1 notes on the Bank of New Zealand, a halfsovereign, 6s. in silver, and an indiarubber purse; tho property of Archibald Blue. Purse identifiable.

Stolen between tho 23rd April last and the 14th ultimo, from McDonald’s whare, near Hororata, Canterbury, a new largo dark-brown rug, with black, red, and green stripes ; the property of Thomas Mortimer ; value £1 12s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 16th or 17th ultimo, from the Masonic Hotel, Havelock, Marlborough, three tankards, throe tumblers, and a goblet; the property of Thomas Adams; value 6s. Identification doubtful.

Stolen on tho 25th or 26th ultimo, from the dwelling of Smith Bryce, Tees Street, Oamaru, a black japanese cashbox with three compartments, containing seven £1 notes, eleven half-sovereigns, between £7 and £8 in silver, a cheque for £4 on the Union Bank of Australia, Oamaru, dated the 23rd ultimo, No. 16369, drawn by John Stewart in favour of Mrs. Campbell, and one or two hawkers’ licenses. Identifiable except money.

Breaking into and stealing from the dwelling of Joshua Froggatt, at Longbusli: James George Lyons has been arrested for this offence by Constable Bernard McLaughlan, Dunedin Police, and sentenced to fourteen days’ imprisonment. Tho stolen gun was found in his possession. Tho other property has not been recovered.

Stolen on the 25th ultimo, from the brothel of Margaret Baker, Wingfield Street, Wellington, a sealskin hat lined with brown satin, two scarlet-satin pincushions, two glass scent-bottles containing pale-coloured scent, a square bottle of toilet vinegar, a round bottle of Florida water, a bottle of fruit-salts, two small hair-brushes, one with tortoiseshell back and the other with mother-of-pearl back; a large hair brush with tortoiseshell back, and a bronze negro on metal stand; value £lO. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to three men, names unknown. Description: First, about twenty-four years of age, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, stout build, sallow complexion, dark hair, clean-shaved except dark moustache ; dressed in grey-tweed suit, Jewish appearance ; a gambler. Second, about twenty-seven years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, brown hair, clean-shaved except heavy moustache. Third, about twenty-two years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, slight build, thin features, fair hair and complexion ; wore dark clothes. Identifiable. The property described was missed from the room in which they were in immediately after they left the brothel. They said they were going to Christchurch by the steamer “ Wairarapa.”

Stolen on the morning of the 29th ultimo, from the Melbourne Hotel, Willis Street, Wellington, a light-brown tweed overcoat, right sleeve tom and stitched together with black cotton, and a single-breasted black-cloth jacket with two sidepockets and a left breast-pocket; the property of Henry Boecker; value 15s. Identifiable.

Supposed stolen on the 26th ultimo, from the person of William Watson, while drunk, between Kaikorai Junction and Green Island, a silver lever hunting-watch, maker Alfred Harlston, 24, St. John Street, London, No. 12311, compen-sation-balance, gold hands ; and a golcl-plated albert chain; value £9 15s. Identifiable.

Between 7 p.m. on the 25th and 8 a.m on the 26th ultimo the store of James Gilmour, at Win ton, was broken into, and the following stolen: A blue-and-white honeycomb bed-cover, diamond-pattern, white fringe, ticket attached, value 9s. 9d. ; and a pair of white 10-4 English blankets, with scarlet, blue, brown, and yellow stripes at ends, ticket attached, value £1 Bs. 6d. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 20th and 29th ultimo, from the hotel of William Walker, at Now Plymouth, a Brussels carpet, 14 feet by 14 feet; colours, black, white, red, and gold : value £8 Bs. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 4th instant, from the shop-door of Chome Foong, Fleet Street, Dunedin, a ladies’ black woollen jacket; value 6s. 6d. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from the person of George Nicol, while in a brothel at Invercargill, a medium-sized brown-leather pocketbook with elastic band, containing seven £1 notes and two receipts from Simpson de Combe and Co., Gore, for £4 10s. and £3 10s. respectively. Receipts only identifiable.

Stolen on the Ist instant, from the shop-door of Lo Keong, George Street, Dunedin, four large sponges; value 16s. Identification doubtful.
