Rewards
The sum of £6 6s. has been awarded in equal proportions to Sergeant William Hanlon and Constables Henry Porter, Frederick Beattie, Daniel Bogue, and George Cowen, Port Chalmers Police, for placing absentee seamen on board the steamers “ Doric ” and “ Tinui,” and preventing the crews from deserting.
The sum of £5 has been awarded to Constable James
Doyle, Wellington Police, for the arrest of two deserters from the ship “ Dunscore.”
The sum of £1 has been awarded to Sergeant Michael James Geerin, Dunedin Police, for the arrest of a deserter from the barque “Night Hawk.”
A temporary police station has been formed at Denniston, in the Westland District.
