Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
(See Police Gazette, 1885, page 43.) Charles Wakefield, charged on warrant with deserting his children, has been arrested by Sergeant-Major John Bevin, Dunedin Police, and discharged.
Henry Cole is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with deserting his wife, at Christchurch, since the 23rd ultimo. Description: English, a billiardmarker and waiter, twenty-seven years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, very black hair, full beard, dark eyes, clear complexion, a red speck (a birth-mark) under one of eyes, small scar over right eye, very natty in dress and person; wears a silver watch-guard with compass in centre, and usually a round felt hat. He was lately employed at Barnford’s Hotel, Patea.
Henry Ashmore is charged, on warrant issued by the Featherston Bench, with having no visible lawful means of support, at Featherston, on the 25th ultimo. Description: A native of Gladstone, Wellington District, a labourer, about twenty-five years of age, between 5 feet 11 inches and 6 feet 1 inch high, medium build, sallow complexion, round face, high cheek-bones, brown hair and eyes, clean-shaved except moustache.
