Appointment as Constable.

Rewards. The sum of £3 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Sergeant James Anderson, Hawera Police, in recognition of the ability and zeal shown by him in connection with the arrest and prosecution of George Hellier, sentenced at the late sittings of the District Court, New Plymouth, to eighteen months’ labour for stealing £lls.
The sum of £3 3s. has been awarded in equal proportions to Sergeant William Hanlon and Constables Henry Porter, Frederick Beattie, Daniel Bogue, and George Cowen, Port Chalmers Police, for placing refractory absentee seamen on board the steamer “ Arawa.”
The sum of £3 6s. Bd. each has been awarded to SergeantMajor William Thomas Mason and Constables Patrick McCormack and Timothy O’Connor, Lyttelton Police, for the arrest of two deserters from the steamer “ Arawa.”
The sum of £1 Is. each has been awarded to Constables Thomas Drake and Thomas J. McCormack, Lyttelton Police, and Constable Charles E. Gifford, of the torpedo-boat, for special attention to the steamer “ Arawa ” while at Lyttelton.
The sum of £4 has been awarded to Constable Patrick J. Herlihy, Lyttelton Police, for the arrest of two deserters from the barque “ Wave Queen.”
The sum of £5 has been awarded by the Wellington City Council to Constable Patrick Leahy, Wellington Police, in recognition of his services in connection with the detection and prosecution of Alexander Stewart, convicted of damaging trees in the Cambridge Terrace plantation.
