Horse- and Cattle-Stealing.

R. W. Lionel Coles is charged, on warrant issued by the Bull’s Bench, with the larceny as a bailee, at Carnarvon, on the 24th ultimo, of a black saddle-gelding, aged, about 16 hands high, branded like I on one of shoulders, shod ; a nearly-new saddle, T. NYE cut with a knife on one of flaps, and a single-rein bridle; the property of Falconer B. Larkworthy ; value £lO. Identifiable. Description: A native of England, supposed to be a sailor, about thirty years of age, about 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair whiskers and moustache, shaved on chin, stammers slightly, crucifix and emblems of faith, hope, and charity tattooed on arms ; supposed to be dressed in dark-tweed suit. He sold the horse, saddle, and bridle to David Crew, hotelkeeper, Pahiatua, Forty-Mile Bush, Hawke’s Bay District, for £4 75., and left there for Wellington. He left Wellington on the 3rd instant as a saloon passenger by the steamer “ Tarawera ” for Auckland. He spoke of going to the Hot Springs. He is believed to be identical with R. M. Lyons Cole, charged on warrant with deserting from the ship “ Orari,” at Wellington, on the 4th November last. (See Police Gazette , 1884, page 202.)

Supposed stolen on the 28th or 29th ultimo, from St. Clair, Oaversham, a heavy-draught black gelding, aged, 17 hands high, blaze down face, string-halt in hind legs, unbranded; and a light-draught black gelding, aged, 15 hands high, hind fetlocks white, unbranded ; the property of Frederick George Fowler ; both value £45. Identifiable.

Supposed stolen on the 3rd instant, from a paddock at Masterton, a bay filly, three years old, about 14J hands high, black points, star on forehead, slight lump on off knee, branded HM conjoined on near shoulder; the property of George Pearcer ; value £l2. Identifiable.

Stolen during the past year, from Akatore, Otago, about 750 ewes and hoggets, ewes branded HV conjoined on near shoulder, and hoggets with a similar brand on near side, slit in ear; the property of Frederick Wayne.

James Stephenson is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with stealing, on the 2nd or 3rd instant, from Oxford West, a bay gelding, 15J hands high, since recovered, the property of Albert Cooper; value £l2. Description : A native of the colony, about twenty years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, 11 stone weight, fair complexion, dark eyes, round face, thin lips, dark hair worn short, downlooking ; dressed in light-tweed suit and black billycock hat. He sold the horso at Tattorsall’s sale-yards, Christchurch.

Supposed stolen on the 9th or 10th instant, from a paddock at Hawera, a bay mare with black points, hack-breed, 15 hands high, branded HS on near shoulder ; the property of Andrew Anderson; value £5. Identifiable.

Supposed stolen on the 16th April last, from Marton, a bay mare with white legs, hack-breed, seven years old, about 16 hands high, a white spot under tail, near eye wall-eyed ; the property of Joseph Kendrick; value £lO. Identifiable. It is said that a man was seen riding the mare into New Plymouth on the 27th ultimo.
