Deserters from Merchant Vessels.
John Martin is charged with deserting from the barque “ Selkirkshire,” at Lyttelton, on the 16th or 17th ultimo. Description: An American, an able seaman, thirty years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, full round face, light hair, clean-shaved except moustache; when last seen wore blue pilot-cloth suit. A reward of £3 is offered for his arrest.
Thomas Neilson is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with deserting from the barque “ Loch Ken,” at Wellington, during the night of the 23rd ultimo. Description: A German, an able seaman, twenty-eight years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, medium build, fair hair beard whiskers and moustache, smart active appearance. A reward of £5 is offered for his arrest.
Otto Eibye and George Gayleard, able seamen, are charged, on warrants issued by the Wellington Bench, with deserting from the ship “Lady Jocelyn,” at Wellington, during the nights of the 10th and 17th ultimo. Description: Eibye is a Dane, twenty-six years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, medium build, florid complexion, large features, fair hair, no hair on face, slovenly appearance. Gayleard is English, forty-nine years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair beard whiskers and moustache.
Charles Johnson is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with deserting from the barque “ Rebecca Crowell,” at Wellington, during the night of the 28th ultimo. Description: A German, an able seaman, twentyfour years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, light hair, very little hair on face ; wears a red-afid-grey sailors’ cap. A reward of £1 is offered for his arrest.
