(See Police Gazette, 1883, page 208.) Georqe Doidge, charged on warrant with stealing clothes, the property of John Dobbs, has been arrested by Constable John Haddock, Dargaville Police, and was remanded to Whangarei and discharged.

Stolen on the 29th ultimo, at South Rakaia, a swag consisting of a pair of new grey blankets ; a pair of blue blankets, a square tear in centre which has lately been mended; a pair of coloured moleskin trousers strapped with black cloth ; two pairs of new dark tweed trousers, size 5; two nearly new striped Crimean shirts; a new towel; a razor with black handle, H scratched on handle; a lather-brush'; a gold quartz specimen ; a pocket-knife with white handle, a small piece broken off handle ; a looking-glass and hair-brush combined ; and two pairs of white flannel drawers; the property of Henry Clarkson; value £3. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a man known as Little Billy, alias Curly, a native of London, a station cook, about thirty-eight years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, fair hair, clean-shaved except moustache, bad feet. He had no swag of his own.

Stolen on the 26th ultimo from off a horse at Martinborough, Wairarapa, an old colonial-made saddle, centre of flaps repaired with a piece of leather 6 inches wide at top and 4 inches at bottom, three-bar stirrup-irons, common stirrup-leathers, web girth, a red-cotton surcingale; and a ladies’ new double-rein bridle, “ Tom Evans ” stamped on top of head-piece, outside of forehead band white with common leather doubled over edge ; the property of Charles Faulkner; value £4 10s. Stolen between the Ist and 15th ultimo, from the workshop of Walter E. Bayne, Mount Eden Road, Auckland, two smoothing-planes, a 9-inch steel square, and a lj-inch chisel with new round handle, all marked “W. E. Bayne ; ” a wooden mallet, and a large paint-brush ; value £l. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 9th ultimo, from off a horse in Grey Street, Gisborne, a saddle, fresh briar scratches on front and on

knee-pads, one of stirrup-leathers nearly new, the other spliced, raw cowhide girth with double buckles ; a bridle, one of the buckles fastening rein to bit broken, the tongue of buckle fastening reins together broken, very narrow cheekstrap ; the property of John Dawson ; value £5. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 15th ultimo, from the dairy of Thomas Ryder, at Puni Farm, near Invercargill, 4Jlb. of butter; seven or eight bars of soap; a round brown-and-white earthenware dish ; five dinner plates; a large yellow earthenware bowl; and a white earthenware bowl; value £l. Identification doubtful.

Identifiable. The clothing was soiled.

A letter posted by Robert Moffett, at Makarona, Otago, in October last, addressed to “ George Fache, Commission Agent, Clyde,” has not been received by Mr. Fache, and it is believed has been stolen. It contained three £1 notes.

Stolen during the night of the 14th ultimo, at Aratapu Gum Fields, Auckland, five sacks of gum; the property of Thomas McManus ; value £lO.

Stolen between the 13th November last and the Ist ultimo, from a case on board the steamer “ Wakatipu,” between Sydney and Dunedin, or in the railway goods shed at Dunedin, about forty Fiji sea shells very tastefully cut and engraved, a fancy shell cruet-stand with three bottles, a nickel-silver cruet-stand with five bottles, a round nickel-

silver alarm clock a dint on one side; a silver toast-rack, a number of sharks’ teeth tied on a stick about 3 feet long, ten white turkish towels, three pair of double-twill sheets, two single sheets, five pillow-slips, three with frills at ends; six silver teaspoons, six new plated table-forks, six tableknives with white ivory handles, six table-spoons, plated ; six dessert-spoons, plated; and three pieces of white coral; the property of Mrs. Ellen Ilay; value £26.
