Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
(See Police Gazette, 1883, page 103.) William Leaman, charged on warrant with deserting his wife and children at Rakaia, has been arrested by the Rimu Police, and ordered to pay 10s. per week towards their support.
David Finlay is charged on warrant of commitment to gaol for seven days’ labour, issued by the Christchurch Bench, in default of paying £1 fine and £1 3s. costs, for having assaulted Daniel Marks, at Christchurch, on the 12th June last. Description : Scotch, a tailor, about twenty-two years of age, about 5 feet 4 inches high, slight build, fair complexion and hair, small light moustache ; dressed in dark-tweed suit, generally wears a very large overcoat. It is supposed he has gone to Sydney.
Joseph Bruen is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, with neglecting to support his illegitimate child by Jessie McLean. Description: A Portuguese, twenty-six years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, thin features, black hair moustache and goatee, black eyes, round-shouldered; dressed in dark-pilot cloth suit and softbrown felt hat.
Thomas Milligan is charged, on warrant issued by the Oamaru Bench, with deserting his illegitimate child by Mary Suliivan, at Waimate, since the 2Gth ultimo. Description: A native of County Westmeath, Ireland, a labourer, between twenty-five and thirty years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, stout build, 15 stone weight, dark complexion, dark hair, clean-shaved except dark moustache. He is supposed to be employed on O’Malley’s railway contract, near Masterton.

Peter Crabb, charged with deserting from the licensed service of Thomas Murphy, at Pine Hill, has been arrested by Constable William Walker, North-East Valley Police.

John Morgan, charged on warrant of commitment to gaol, in default of paying £1 fine and 17s. 6d. costs, for being drunk and incapable, has been arrested by Constable John Twomey, Opunake Field Force.
