(See Police Gazette, 1883, page 66.) The warrant issued for the arrest of David Bell, for stealing £I,OOO, the moneys of the Manchester and Liverpool District Banking Company, has been withdrawn.
Stolen on the 30th or 31st ultimo, from off a horse at Hawera, a coarse unbleached-canvas horse-cover, nearly new, lined with felt carpeting, breast-strap of woollen web on buckleside, and of leather on the other side ; the property of Henry Dixon ; value £l. Identifiable.
Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from a railway-wagon at Feather ston or Wellington, a side of smoked bacon and a ham ; the pro' perty of Bichard Kelly ; value £1 16s.
Supposed stolen between the 24th and 31st ultimo, from Platform Farm, near Greytown, five turkeys, light or dark-grey colour; the property of Beniamin Kimberley ; value about £1 ss. A reward of £lO is offered for information leading to the conviction of the offender or offenders. i
Stolen about the 31st ultimo, at Blenheim, about 80 lb. o black-steel fencing-wire and a new tomahawk; the property o William Douslin. Tomahawk identifiable.
Stolen on the 29th or 30th ultimo, from the clothes-line of Alfred Jardine, Cuba Street, Wellington, three common holland aprons; a hollaud apron bound with red braid, pina-fore-pattern ; four pairs of men’s new merino socks, grey and brownish colour; and four bath-towels; value £1 ss. 6d. Aprons identifiable.
(See Police Gazette, 1883, page 85.) The coffin containing the bones of Ah Ly, stolen from the cemetery at Beefton, has been recovered.
Stolen about the 20th ultimo, at Foxton, a small kerosenelamp with square tin bottom ; the property of the Foxton Town Board; value 6s. Identification doubtful.
Stolen during the night of the 19th ultimo, from the verandah of the store of John Gallagher, at Cronadou, Beefton, two new 6 by 8 feet calico tents, marked “B. Tranzen, Maker, Port, Nelson;” also marked S.E./B. u.a./8., in ink; value £1 2s. 6d. each/ Identifiable.
Stolen during the night of the 19th ultimo, from the clothesline of Lydia Ludford, Springfield Boad, St. Albans, Christchurch, 7 yards of unbleached calico; value 2s. 6d. Identifiable.
Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from the clothes-line of Ellen Bell, George Street, Port Chalmers, four pairs of ladies’ calico drawers, two of them marked “E. L. Hanlon” on waistband, with ink; and three linen chemises, one marked “E. L. Hanlon,” with ink ; value £1 10s. Marked articles identifiable.
Stolen on the 16th ultimo, from the cart of Joseph Harrop at Winchester, a driving-wliip and a small axe ; value 12s. 6d. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to John Sugrue, Irish, about thirty-six years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, fresh complexion, sandy beard, chin and upper lip shaved. He lives at Kakahu Bush.
