Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

(See Police Gazette, 1882, pago 157.) James Scott, charged on warrant of commitment to gaol, in default of paying fines and costs, for using obscene language, has been'arrested by Constable Richard Haldane, Lumsden Police, and paid the fines and costs.

Joseph Neal is charged, on warrant issued by the Waimate Bench, with deserting his son, William Joseph Neal, aged ten years, at Waimate, since about December, 1881. Description : English, a bushman and bullock-driver, twenty-nine years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, stout build, long body, short legs, fair complexion, dark hair beard whiskers and moustache ; fond of shooting, and a good shot. He was working in the bush near Blenheim about three months ago.

The warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench for the arrest of Alfred Bolton, for deserting his wife and children, has been withdrawn.

Arthur Holland, charged on warrant with disobeying a summons to answer a charge of neglecting to provide for the support of his children, has been arrested by Constable Patrick Bourke, Whangarei Police.

Michael Ryan is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with disobeying an order to pay ss. per week towards the support of bis child in the Burnham Industrial School. Description : Irish, a labourer, fifty-one years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, dark-brown curly hair, dark-grev eyes, large nose, an aimy pensioner ; dressed in darktweed suit and soft black-felt hat. He was £2 10s. in arrears on the 19th ultimo.

Thomas Fleming is charged on warrant of commitment to Oamaru Gaol for three days’ labour, issued by the Oamaru Bench, in default of paying £1 fine and 7s. costs for smoking in a railway-carriage, at Oamaru, on the 17th ultimo. Description : A North of Ireland man, a labourer, twenty-eight or thirty years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair beard whiskers and moustache ; wore old light-tweed sac-coat, light-tweed trousers, and old soft black-felt hat.; carried a grey blanket-swag with two leather straps.

James John Dowey is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with disobeying an order to pay ss. per week towards the support of his child in the Burnham Industrial School. Description: Irish, a labourer, fifty-two years of age, 5 feet 8£ inches high, freckled, grey eyes, grey hair beard whiskers and moustache. He was £5 10s. in arrears on the 19th ultimo.

Richard Golding is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with disobeying an order to pay 7s. 6d. per week towards the support of his children in the Burnham Industrial School. Description : English, a bricklayer, forty-

five years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, sandy beard whiskers and moustache, slouching gait. He is supposed to be employed harvesting in Canterbury. He was £7 in arrears on the 19th ultimo.

Waiteb George Willoughby is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with deserting his wife, at Carterton, since the 30th January last. Description : English, a carpenter, twenty-eight years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, grey eyes, brown hair, reddish whiskers and moustache, two small scars on nose, small lump on right little finger ; dressed in black coat, greytweed trousers and vest, and blue-tweed hat. He was seen on the Kaiwara Road, near Wellington, on the sth ultimo.

John McManus is charged, on warrant issued by the Invercargill Bench, with deserting his wife, at Invercargill, since the 15th January last. Description: Irish, generally employed at threshing-mills, about sixty-one years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair and whiskers turning grey, chin and upper lip shaved, long face and nose, bald on top of head, female figure on left forearm, an army pensioner. He is supposed to be in the Oamaru District.

Bridget Johnson, alias Keaton, is charged on warrant of commitment to gaol for four days’ labour, issued by the Dunedin Bench, in default of paying £2 fine and 7s. costs for making use of obscene language, at Dunedin, on the Ist instant. Description : Irish, forty years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, and fair liair.
