Deserters from Merchant Vessels.
(See Police Gazette, 1883, page 18.) The warrants issued by the Wellington Bench for the ai’rest of William Ellis, William Williams, John Johanson, Gustav Jonson, and B. Hanson, for deserting from the barque “May Queen,” have been cancelled.

Thomas Weight, charged on warrant with deserting from the ship “ Waitara,” has been arrested by Constable James Christie, Wellington Police, and sentenced to one month’s labour.
Stewart Harris is charged, on warrant issued by the Lyttelton Bench, with deserting from the barque “ Dumbartonshire,” at Lyttelton, during the night of the 23rd ultimo. Description : English, an apprentice-seaman, seventeen years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair; dressed in blue-cloth coat with brass buttons, darkgrey tweed trousers, sailors’ cap with badge, and Oxford shoes; awkward gait. A reward of £3 is offered for his arrest if effected before the vessel leaves Lyttelton, which will be in about five weeks hence.
Richard Flett is charged, on warrant issued by the Lyttelton Bench, with deserting from the barque “ Rialto,” at Lyttelton, on the 25th or 26th ultimo. Description : Scotch, an ableseaman, twenty-eight years of age, 5 feet six inches high, stout build, brown hair, large full brown beard whiskers and moustache, slovenly appearance. A reward of £2 is offered for his arrest if effected before the vessel leaves Lyttelton, which will be about the 12tli instant.
J. Saunders, James Jackson, Richard Templeton, and Henry James Smith, able seamen, are charged, on warrant issued by the Lyttelton Bench, with deserting from the barque “Rialto,” at Lyttelton, during the night of the 28th ultimo. Description: Saunders is English, twenty-two years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slight build, dark hair, no hair on face. Jackson is Irish, twenty-one years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight build, dark-brown hair, small brown whiskers. Templeton is Irish, twenty-three years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, dark-brown hair, small dark moustache, rolling gait. Smith is Scotch, twenty-one years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, round features, light-brown hair, small fair whiskers. A reward of £4 each is offered for their arrest if effected before the barque leaves Lyttelton, which will be about the 12th instant.
