Horse- and Cattle-Stealing.
(See Police Gazette, 1883, page 11.) Charles Verner, charged with stealing a horse, the property of James H. Balche, has been arrested by Constable W. Bern, Auckland Police, and remanded to Te Aroha.
(See Police Gazette, 1883, page 21.) The six bay fillies, the property of Crossleigh DarapierCrossley, reported stolen from a paddock at Woodend, have been recovered.
Stolen on the 26th ultimo, from North-East Belt, Ashburton, a draught bay mare, aged, blaze down nose, three fetlocks white, scar on off rump, no visible brand; the property of S. Elliott; value £3O. Identifiable.
Supposed stolen on the 27th or 28th ultimo, from a paddock at Patea, a brown gelding, four years old, fifteen hands high, branded CM on near shoulder, a little white on one of hind fetlocks, star on forehead, mark of cut on nose; the property of Alexander Munro ; value £2O. Identifiable.
Supposed stolen on the 26th December last, from Tauranga, a chestnut mare, saddle-hack breed, six years old, fourteen hands high, branded H within a heart on near shoulder, WS on off rump, white face, fore fetlocks and one of hind fetlocks white ; the property of George W. Whitcombe ; value £l2. Identifiable. She may have been taken to the Thames, Waikato, or Napier.
Supposed stolen on the 18th ultimo, from a paddock at Tapanui, an iron-grey horse, five years old, fifteen hands high, blaze down face, hind fetlocks white, a small piece cut off near ear; the property of Donald Gunn ; value £ls. Identifiable.
Supposed stolen between March and December last, from Barewood Station, near West Taieri, about 1,500 cross-bred and merino hoggets, branded DP on off side, back bit out of near ear of ewes and off ear of wethers; the property of David Proudfoot; value £750. Identifiable.
Supposed stolen during the night of the 30th ultimo, from Marumaru, Hawke’s Bay, a chestnut gelding, hack-breed, about 15 hands high, star on forehead, off-hind fetlock white, branded KAI on off rump ; the property of William McCulloch ; value £B. Identifiable. The horse may have been stolen by Maoris going to Gisborne.
