Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.

(See Police Gazette, 1882, page 156.) Maurice Fitzmattrice Pinchin, charged on warrant with the larceny as a bailee of a piano, the property of Samuel Henry Webb, has been arrested by Sergeant John McMahon, Auckland Police, and discharged.

John Buchanan is charged, on warrant issued by the Tauranga Bench, with stealing, on the 10th instant, from the Yorkshire Grey Hotel, Tauranga, a saddle and bridle, value £3, since recovered ; the property of John Faulkner. Description : Irish, a cook and seaman, twenty-one years of age, 5 feet of inches high, sallow complexion, light-brown hair, hazel eyes, mole on right check, scar on back of neck and on head ; dressed in old faded sac-coat, light-tweed trousers, cap with French peak and anchor-buttons, and boots with toe- and lieel-

plates. He was sentenced at Auckland on the 21st January, 1881, to nine months’ labour for larceny. (Sec Police Gazette, 1881, page 188.) He went towards Ohinemutu.

Nearly all identifiable. Thomas Stuart, Richard Healey, Peter Young, John Rodericjue, Benjamin Sutherland, George Dean, and John Erickson, seamen belonging to the steamer “ Wellington,” have been arrested for the offence hv Sergeant Henry Martin and Constable John Stratliern, Auckland Police, and remanded. A gold bracelet, three diamond rings, six gold motto keeper-rings, six gold engraved keepers, thirty-six gold lockets, a ladies’ gold chain, a silver necklet, thirteen gold watch-keys, five gold seals, seven gold slides for velvet, twentyeight and a half pairs of gold earrings, twenty-eight gold brooches, a gold-mounted pendant, and three gold studs have been recovered.

Supposed stolen on the Isth or 16th ultimo, from Beach* near Rakaia, two greyhound-sluts, about seven months old, one white with brindle spots, the other pawn colour, tip of tail white ; the property of Matthew Wrightman ; value £5 each. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 6tli instant, from a shed at Sefton, Canterbury, an old colonial-made bullock-hide saddle, “Thomas McNaught” on nail-heads, two straps on off side for carabine, pommel slightly chafed, new leather girth ; the property of Hugh Yallance. Identifiable.

Stolen during the night of the 10th instant, from a clothes-line in the yard of Dr. G. C. Stacpool, at Waimate, six white pocket-handkerchiefs, large size, marked “ George C. Stacpool,” seven gentlemen’s linen collars, marked a square, five white kitchen-dusters, a towel, and a pair of white stockings ; value £1 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 10th or 11th instant, at Hawkesbury, a fishing rod, about 15 feet long, in four pieces, second piece from top spliced, reel and lino attached; the property of William McGlashan ; value £3. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 6th and 11th instant, from a stable at Seven-Mile-Peg, North Road, Canterbury, a ncarly-new pigskin saddle, “J. J. Wilson” stamped on flaps, german-silver irons, white common girths, and leather surcingle ; the property of William Wilson ; value £6. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 16th or 17th instant, from Cumberland Street, Dunedin, a brown turkey-cock, about 181 b., very little feathers on breast; the property of Edward McKeeven j value 14s. Identifiable.

On the 10th instant a receiving letter-box attached to an unoccupied store in Ure Street, Oamaru, was broken open, but it is not known whether any letters were stolen.

Stolen on the Ist instant, at Sydenham, a black sheep-slut, with a few white hairs on back, greyish muzzle, and brownish tan paws ; the property of R. A. C. Gibbings ; value £2O. Identifiable. A reward of £1 offered for recovery.

Stolen on the 9th instant, from a booth at Timaru, a long single-breasted tweed overcoat, lined with black material, two outside pockets, and an inside breast pocket 5 the property of Frederick Tansley ; value £3. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 10th instant, from the railway-station at Pukeuri, near Oamaru, a brown-tweed wa'.erproof overcoat, with dark-velvet collar and blue-tartan lining; the property of Magnus Stackles; value £2 12s. 6d. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from the porch of the Wesleyan Church, Gisborne, a nearly-new long single-breasted overcoat,

brown-and-rod-mixture material, fly for buttons, long slit at back with two buttons, lined with black-and-white shepherds’ plaid, the property of Alfred Sutcliff, value £3 155.; a black-felt deerstalker hat, the property of Henry Staples, value Bs.; and a black-silk umbrella, with one of ribs broken, the properly of Samuel Holman, value 12s. Ail identifiable.

Stolen between the 14th August last and the 16th instant, from a box in an outhouse at George Brown’s boardinghouse, Madras Street, Christchurch, a post-office savings-bank book, Christchurch branch, £3 to credit; a yellow-leather poekotbook, 5 by 3| inches, three compartments ; a 55.-piece ; a plain meerschaum pipe, with red-leather case, value £1 Is. ; a 9-carat gold albert chain, alternate links plain and carved, value £2 10s. ; two plain gold studs, value 55.; a blue-black diagonal-cloth overcoat, value £2 10s.; a blue-black diagonal-cloth coat and vest, value £1 10s.; a new suit of brownish-grey tweed, value £3 ; and a suit of light homespun tweed trousers, repaired at seat, value £2 10s.; the property of William Pagan Swan.
