Incendiarism.
On the 17th ultimo some dry tea-tree and wood, saturated with kerosene oil, and a piece of lighted candle, were placed under the floor of the house of Alexander Farmer, at Kamo, Auckland, with the intention of destroying the house, but the fire was discovered and extinguished before any damage was done.
On the sth ultimo, at North Otautau, Southland, about six chains of a post-and-rail fence, the property of the Government, value £6, was maliciously destroyed by fire.
On the morning of the 25th ultimo an unoccupied fourroomed house, at Tapanui, the property of Bre tuner and Washer, was maliciously destroyed by fire. The house was insured for £IOO in the National Office.
ABOUT 10.40 p.m. on the 22nd ultimo the drapers’ shop of Wood and Smith, at Timaru, was maliciously set on fire, but the fire was discovered and extinguished before much damage was done. The stock was insured for £1,400, which is considerably less than its value. »
