Information is requested respecting the whereabouts of a Mrs. Ellis, supposed to be a native of the colony, about twentytwo years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, large blue eyes, rather long features, fair hair ; wore long black-cloth jacket with large black buttons, pockets at back, black dress with flounces in front, black-straw hat with brownish feather, double frill white lace round neck, red bow in breast, plain gold ring, and elastic-side boots. On the 23rd September last she left a boy, about seven months’ old, whose name she said was Henry Ellis, with a Mrs. McCaffry, Cargill Road, South Dunedin, promising to pay 10s. per week for the child’s support ; she paid 10s. in advance, but has not since been heard of by Mrs. McCaffry, who now wishes to get rid of the child. She said her husband was in Dunedin Hospital with a bad leg, and that she was going to service at the Ship Inn, Dunedin, both of which statements on inquiry proved to be incorrect. A woman answering her description, who gave the name of Elizabeth Norris, called at the Benevolent Institution Office, Dunedin, on the 22nd September, and asked for assistance. She had a child in her arms, and has not been heard of since. Warrant issued for child-desertion.
