Information is requested respecting the whereabouts of a Mrs. Ellis, supposed to be a native of the colony, about twentytwo years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, large blue eyes, rather long features, fair hair ; wore long black-cloth jacket with large black buttons, pockets at back, black dress with flounces in front, black-straw hat with brownish feather, double frill white lace round neck, red bow in breast, plain gold ring, and elastic-side boots. On the 23rd September last she left a boy, about seven months’ old, whose name she said was Henry Ellis, with a Mrs. McCaffry, Cargill Road, South Dunedin, promising to pay 10s. per week for the child’s support ; she paid 10s. in advance, but has not since been heard of by Mrs. McCaffry, who now wishes to get rid of the child. She said her husband was in Dunedin Hospital with a bad leg, and that she was going to service at the Ship Inn, Dunedin, both of which statements on inquiry proved to be incorrect. She also said that she came to Dunedin from Palmerston. It is believed that Mrs. Ellis is an assumed name. A woman answering her description, who gave the name of Elizabeth Norris, called at the Benevolent Institution Office, Dunedin, on the 22nd September, and asked for assistance. She had a child in her arms, and has not been heard of since. Warrant issued for child-desertion.

Information is requested respecting the whereabouts of Stephen Henry Hudson, English, a painter, about thirty-five years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, fresh complexion, grey eyes, black hair, large front teeth. He was discharged from the Wanganui Gaol in June, 1880, after doing a sentence of nine months’ labour for larceny. (See Police Gazette, 1880, page

112.) Inquiry is made for him at the request of his brother,. Joseph Hudson, gunner, Royal Artillery, Armedabad, East Indies.

Information is requested respecting the whereabouts of Lorenzo Tabone, a native of Malta, a fisherman, fifty-one yeai'e of age ; fond of drink, gambling, and low company. He was in Melbourne in 1867, and is believed to be at present in this colony. Inquiry is made for him at the request of his wife.

Information is requested respecting the whereabouts of William England, a mechanic, trade not known, who was said to be in Wellington, but he cannot be found here now. Inquiry is made for him at the request of the Hon. John Johnston, who has documents for him from the French Consul at Sydney.

Information is requested respecting the whereabouts of John Gray, if living, or, if dead, the particulars of his death. He is a native of West Cantyre Barony, near Glasgow, a farmer by profession, but may have followed the occupation of a gold-miner. He went to Victoria in 1857, and left there in 1859 for this colony, where it is supposed lie died.

Information is requested respecting the whereabouts of Alfred Hobden, a seaman, thirty-five years of age, short stout build. He left Liverpool in 1860 for this colony, and on the 15th August, 1863, joined the Taranaki Military Settlers, and received a grant of town section, Lot 41. Section 40, Mokoia; and farm section, Lot 31, Section 254, Hawera, Patea District. He was heard of at Oakura Village in February, 1866. Inquiry is made for him at the request of Frederick Hobden, 70, Bidder Street, Islington, Liverpool.
