Michael Higgins is charged, on warrant issued by the Lyttelton Bench, with stealing, on the 19th ultimo, at Opawa, a drake and five ducks, value 155., since recovered; the property of Rebecca Curie. Description : Irish, a labourer, fortytwo years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slight build, blue eyes, brown hair, short reddish beard, whiskers, and moustache ; dressed in old black monkey-jacket, dark-moleskin trousers, black billycock hat, and old patched Wellington boots ; fond of drink; dissipated dirty appearance. (See Police Gazette, 1881, page 174.) He was seen at Opawa, going towards Mr. Murray-Aynsley’s, on the 29th ultimo.
Stolen about the 13th ultimo, from the premises of George Cowie, High Street, Dunedin, a boys’ tricycle, about 2 feet high, 18-inch wheels, painted red ; leather of saddle well worn ; value £3. Identification doubtful.
Stolen on the 24th or 25th ultimo, from a new building at Waimate, a bi'ace and a number of bits, a 4-inch bead-plane, a f-inch bead-plane, 2 smoothing-planes, a dovetail saw, a 4-inch, a f-inch, a f-inch, and two f-inch chisels, a large whetstone in box without cover, a small whetstone, a small rebate-plane, a 24-inch rule, 2 rosewood saw handles, a saddle-strap without buckle, a tin of copal varnish, aud a quantity of scrim ; the property of John and Archibald McKenzie ; value £6 10s. Identifiable.
Stolen between the Bth and 11th ultimo, from a stable at Papanui Road, near Christchurch, a 3-16 bead plane, a f bead plane, and nine square planes, have been in use for some time, each stamped “H. B. Cox ;” a new plough plane, a f plough spokeshave, a mortise guage, a smooth plane, and a level; the property of Arthur Evans ; value £9. Identifiable.
Stolen during the night of the 11th ultimo, from a box in the yard of Samuel Dufty, Colombo Road, Sydenham, a white male ferret and a polecat female ferret; value £4. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to George Shuker, English, a labourer, sixteen years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, slight build, sallow complexion, dark hair; wore dark-tweed suit and black hat.
Stolen on the 14th or 15th ultimo, from Rattray Street Wharf, Dunedin, three ships’ iron scuppers, about 3 feet long, 3 inches in diameter, brass flanges near ends ; the property of James Horne ; value £ls. Identifiable.
Stolen on the 19th ultimo, from the stables of the Marquis of Normanby Hotel, Carterton, a single-rein snafile-bridle, with blue forehead band, silver-plated buckles near bit, a piece of new leather added to end; the property of John Elly ; valuo £1 ss. Identifiable.
Stolen between the 2nd and 10th ultimo, from the garden of Thomas Sheriff, Clarendon, near Invercargill, two pear trees, a plum tree, and an apple tree ; value Bs.
Supposed stolen on the 12th or 13th ultimo, from the railway goods-slied at Oamaru, a wooden case, 20 by 20 by 8 inches, branded E.W., containing twelve bottles of Royal Scottish whisky, “ Jarvois, Soutter, and Co., London and Glasgow,” on labels ; the property of the Government; value £2 Bs.
Stolen on the 17th ultimo, from the clothes-line of Mary Brown, Moray Place, Dunedin, a flannel petticoat, three girls’ petticoats (one flannel and two winsey), a boys’ black-and-white check wincey shirt, a babies’ flannel, one and a half pairs of socks, four pairs of children’s socks, and a pair of children’s stockings ; value £1 15s. Identifiable.
Stolen during the night of the 15th ultimo, from the front of the shop of Barnabas James Hale, Colombo Street, Christchurch, a pair of men’s new gum boots, size 9; value £1 Bs. Identifiable.

The lamp, the property of Archibald Whiteford, stolen from the Fire Brigade Station, Hill Street, Wellington, has been recovered.

Stolen on the 19th ultimo, from a cabin of the steamer “ Antrim,” at Lake Wakatipu, two £5 noles on the Bank of New Zealand and two bills for medical attendance ; the property of James Simmers. Bills identifiable.
Stolen during the night of the 18th ultimo, from a stable at Whatawhata, a small English saddle, small knee pads, short leather girth, old-fashioned rusty irons ; the saddle was covered with new cow-hide about a year ago ; the property of Benjamin Edwards; value £5. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Maoris, who have gone to Raglan.
