Extracts from Tasmanian Crime Report.

(From Reports of Crime, 15th, 22nd, and 29th July last pages 110, 114, and 118.)

Stolen on the 9th instant, from Beaconsfield, a brownleather portmanteau, T.G.L. printed on it, containing 3 gold lever watches, 2 English aud 1 Geneva; 1 Geneva ditto, 7 gold wedding rings, 1 scarf and 1 tie ring, 2 silver signet rings, 8 gold albert chains, 8 gold lockets, 3 gold necklets, 5 gold sets, brooch and earrings ; 1 set gold studs, 1 gold-mounted hair albert, 3 silver alberts, £7 in silver, £ls in half-sovereigns, and 20 sovereigns; the property of, and jewellery identifiable by, Charles Randall. James Ban*ett, jun., John Barrett, and William Barrett have been arrested on suspicion by the Georgetown Territorial Police.

Referring to the robbery of jewellery at Beaconsfield on th e 9th instant, the following is a list, as far as known as yet, of the articles stolen, viz. : —Watches: 1 gentlemen’s gold hunting lever, engine-turned case, 18-carat gold, maker Rotlierhams, No. 4781, £2O ; 1 ladies’ ditto, engraved case, maker Rotherliams, 18-carat gold, £ls ; 2 gentlemen’s silver hunting English lever, engine-turned cases, maker Rotherliams, £ls ; 1 ditto, Abbott’s name on dial, Rotherliams maker, inside hinge of case broken, £7 10s. ; 1 ditto, maker Hamilton, £5; 2 ditto, maker Waltham, £9 ; 6 ditto Boston levers, Nos. from 43791 to 43796, £ls; 1 ditto, keyless hunting, broken rounding-gear, £4 10s.; 1 gold Geneva hunting, Charles diggers owner; 1 silver openfaeed English lever, large size, Charles Stodbardt owner; 1 silver hunting Geneva, No. 29844, Thompson owner. Chains : 3 18-carat, gentlemen’s gold alberts, £25 10s.; 2 15-carat ditto, £l3 ; 1 ladies’ gold albert with two slides, mounted in pearls, and tassels at end, £6 10s.; 3 gentlemen’s silver alberts, £2 Bs.; 1 9-carat gentlemen’s gold albert, long links, stamp centre of each link, £3 10s. ; 1 gold-mounted hair albert, £1 ss. ; 7 18-carat gold lockets, one has an anchor and twisted wire cable, one with a leaf set with pearls and emerald in centre, £l3 ; 1 15-carat gold small heart locket, engraved, with boxing glass in front, 10s.; 1 15-earat gold chain compass, glass back and front, £1 155.; 1 ladies’ gold pendant, with chain attached, emerald in centre, and two tassels, £8 10s.; 1 gold set, oval brooch and earrings, set with diamonds and rubies, boxing glass on back of brooch, £6 ; 1 gold set, brooch and earrings, set with rubies, and tassels, £4 10s.; 1 ditto, with leaf, set with light-green topaz, £4 10s.; 1 ditto, set with rubies, £4; 1 ditto, plain round, domed centre, boxing glass in back, £2; 1 brooch in morocco case, leaves and garnets, £3; 1 ditto, cable pattern, with two tassels, large size, £4 10s. ; 1 brooch, with leaves, light-brown topaz and small drop attached, with three greenstones, £3; 1 set gold-fronted studs, 165.; 1 gold scarf ring, thist.le-and-shamrock pattern, £1 10s.; 9 18-carat gold wedding rings, various sizes, £1 4-s. ; 2 silver sets, brooch and earrings, £2 10s.; 2 silver signet rings with bloodstones, £1 45.; 1 narrow gold tie-ring, with slight dent on front, 155.; 1 pair 18-carat gold spectacles, in case, £2 10s.; 11 gold spring and ratchet watch-keys, £1 18s. 6d.; 1 dozen cards, gold, metal and steel watch-hands, English and Geneva; 1 gross watch-glasses, assorted ; 1 gross locket-glasses, assorted. The 20 sovereigns were in a chamois-leather bag. Watchmakers’ tools, brushes, &c. ; 2 white shirts, one clean, the other soiled; photograph of shop, with C. Randall’s name on it; photograph of family, mother’s, brothers’, and sisters’ likenesses, were also in the portmanteau, which has two straps; one of the handles is loose, and fastened with a French nail inside; the letters T.G.L. are painted on the side in black.

Mr. Charles Randall offers a reward of £2O for such information as shall lead to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who stole his property from the Exchange Hotel, Beaconsfield, on the 9th instant, or a proportionate sum on the recovery of the property stolen.
