Extract from Victoria Police Gazette.

(From Gazette, 1881, pages 7 and 21.)

Information is requested by the German Consul as to the whereabouts of two brothers, named Albert and William Sachs, who carried on business as private bankers at Frankfort-on-tlie-Maine, Prussia, and who absconded from that city on the 21st May last, taking with them a large sum of money and valuables intrusted to them by their customers. It is believed that they have come to Melbourne. A warrant has been issued, and should they be found the extradition documents will be telegraphed for. Description: Albert Sachs, borne in Cologne, thirty-two years of age, scarcely 5 feet high, slender build, light

hair, whiskers, and moustache, yellowish complexion, small inexpressive eyes, smart gait; wears gold-rimmed spectacles or eyeglass. William Sachs, born in Aix la Chapelle, thirty-one years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, dark-brown hair, whiskers, and small moustache, oval face, fresh complexion, dark eyes, slightly stooped, smart gait. They are Jews, and have somewhat of an Austrian dialect. Photographs in Detective Office, Melbourne. —O. 8126. —30th December, 1880.

One Hundred Pounds Reward. —Absconded from Northampton, England, on the 19th October, 1880, charged with stealing a leather bag, with brass plate, having “P. and R. Phipps ” engraved thereon, containing £332 in gold and silver, about £SOO in cheques, a bankers’ draft for £175 145., and £IOO in bank notes, three or four of which are Bank of England, indorsed “P. Phipps and Co., 19-10-80 the property of his employers, Messrs. Phipps and Co. Fletcher Euston Edmunds, about twenty-eight years of age, about 6 feet 2 inches in height, sallow complexion, full face, thick neck, black hair, small dark moustache, no whiskers, thick lips, shows his teeth very much when speaking, holds his head a little forward, and has a slouching gait; dressed in a light overcoat, dark trousers, and low felt hat. The above reward will be paid by Messrs. Phipps and Co. to any person apprehending the said Fletcher Euston Edmunds, or for such information as will lead to his apprehension.
