Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
(See Police Gazette, 1880, page 30.) Frederick Massidek, charged with failing to provide for the support of his illegitimate child, is a bricklayer.
(See Police Gazette, 1880, page 12.) Edward Hitchman, charged with deserting his wife and child at Waimate, has been arrested by Sergeant Henry Martin, Auckland Police, remanded to Waimate, and ordered to pay £1 per week towards their support.
Thomas Stanton is charged, on warrant issued by the Christchurch Bench, with failing to provide his wife with adequate means of support at Christchurch since the 30th January last. Description : A native of Nelson, a labourer, thirty-one years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, medium build, brown hair, sandy beard, whiskers, and moustache, blue eyes, long straight nose ; wore brown pilot coat, moleskin trousers, and black billycock hat. It is supposed be has gone to the Oamaru District to seek employment at harvest work.
James Mitchell is charged on warrant (Bench by whom issued not stated) with neglecting to provide for the support of his child at South Malvern since the 20th ultimo. Description : Supposed English, a miner and labourer, about thirty years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache; wore black-cloth jacket, grey-tweed trousers, and black billycock hat; quiet manner. It is supposed he left Lyttelton on the 23rd ultimo.
(See Police Gazette, 1880, page 20.) Michael Higgins, charged on warrant with disobeying a summons to answer a charge of using indecent language in a railway carriage, has been arrested by Constable Robert Neill, Lyttelton Police, and fined £3 and costs.
(See Police Gazette, 1880, page 30.) McLeane, charged on warrant with disobeying a summons to answer a charge of having provoked a breach of the peace, surrendered to the Hamilton Police, and has been fined £2 and costs, or one month’s labour.
(See Police Gazette, 1879, page 206.) Henry Mitchell, charged with failing to pay for the support of his children in the Auckland Industrial School, has been arrested by Constable John Strathern, Auckland Police, and sentenced to three months’ labour.
Samuel Higgins is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with deserting his three children under fourteen years of age at Wellington since the Ist instant. Description : English, a seaman and labourer, about forty-five years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout build, fresh complexion, dark eyes, dark-brown hair, clean-shaved except a little dark-brown hair on chin; wore brown overcoat, dark-striped moleskin trousers, and hard black-felt hat. He left Wellington on the Ist instant by the steamer “ Te Anau ” for' Lyttelton, working his passage. He will likely endeavour to leave the colony.
