Deserting Wives and Families, &c.
(See Police Gazette, 1878, page 179.) Alexander Weight, charged with failing to provide adequate means of support for his wife and family at Addington,has been arrested bySergeant James O’Malley, Geraldine Police.
Richard Serle is charged, on warrant of commitment to gaol for one mouth’s labour, issued by the Christchurch Bench, in default of paying £6 10s., due on the 18th ultimo, for the maintenance of his wife and family at Bingsland, near Christchurch. Description : English, a labourer (has worked in malthouses), forty-one years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, 6tout build, deeply pock-pitted, dark complexion and hair, dark bushy beard, whiskers, and moustache; wore grey-tweed suit, black billycock hat, and watertight boots.
William, alias James, Neil is charged, on warrant issued by the Dunedin Bench, with disobeying a summons to appear at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Dunedin, on the 31st ultimo, to answer a charge of being the occupier of a house of ill-fame. Description : Irish, about thirty-five years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, beard, and moustache, cheeks shaved, patch of white hair on forehead, scar on left side of nose, drunken repulsive appearance. lie is believed to be identical with Hugh O’Neill. ( Vide Police Gazette, 1878, page 2.) It is supposed ho has gone to Greytown or Lawrence.
Mathew Livingston is charged, on warrant issued by the Wellington Bench, with disobeying a summons to appear at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, on the 3rd instant, to answer a charge of wilfully damaging property. Description: A North of Ireland "man, a groom and cab-driver, twenty-four years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, dark complexion, dark hair, whiskers, and moustache; wore dark clothes and hard blackfelt hat; smart appearance. He is supposed to have gone to Wanganui. Since arrested by the Wanganui Police.

Ale re o Restieaux, charged on warrant with failing to provide adequate means of support for his wife and child, has been arrested by Sergeant William Willis, Amberley Police, on a charge of larceny, aud sentenced to four months’ labour.

Joseph Reilly, charged on warrant with disobeying an order to provide for the maintenance of his mother, has been arrested by Detective Martin Grace, Auckland Police.
Robert Heath is charged on warrant of commitment to the' gaol at Wanganui for fourteen days, issued by the Wanganui Bench, in default of paying £5 fine, £2 4s. damages, and 15s. costs, for having wilfully and maliciously damaged the windows of the Post Office, at Wanganui, the property of tho Government, on the morning of the let instant. Description: English,
a newspaper reporter, twenty-five years of age, about 5 feet 7 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, light-brown bushy curly hair, light-brown whiskers and moustache, chin shaved, good-looking, gentlemanly appearance, speaks Swiss and German. lie left Wanganui on the sth instant, by the steamer “ Manawatu,” for Wellington, with the intention of going to Sydney and Melbourne. He is also charged on warrant of commitment to Wanganui gaol for fourteen days, issued by the same Bench, in default of paying £lO, fine, costs, and damages, for having on the same morning wilfully and maliciously damaged a window in the Bank of Australasia, at Wanganui, the property of Frederick Morris Spurdle.

John O’Connor, charged on warrant with deserting his wife and family at Auckland, has been arrested by Constable John Mclvor, Turakina Police, and discharged.
