The sum of £3 lias been awarded from the Reward- Fund to Constable William Gilbert, Mosgiel Police, in acknowledgment of zeal and ability shown by him in the prosecution of Christopher Hanna, fined £3O for sly grog-selling. The sum of £4 has been awarded to Sergeant John Rooney, Palmerston South Police, in acknowledgment of expertness shown by him in effecting the arrest of Thomas Turner, George Holmes, and John Hawkins, who deserted from the ship Dallam Tower,” at Port Chalmers. The collie dog, the property of John Cameron, reported stolen at Tapanui, has been recovered, and traced to the possession of Louis Day.
Between the 31st ultimo and 4th instant, at Carterton, Wellington District, a horse, the property of Thomas Hooker, •was maliciously shot at and wounded.
Between the 19th and 26th ultimo, at Fern Flat, near Beefton, a cow, value £ls, the property of Messrs. Smith Bros., was maliciously shot at and wounded. The owners offer £lO reward on conviction of the offender. Suspicion attached to John Grady, a farmer, residing at the Buller Road.
