House-Breaking, Stealing from the Person and from Dwellings.

Stolen on the 4th instant, from the person of Thomas Muir,, while drunk, at Kensington, near Dunedin, an open face silvergeneva watch, about half-worn, No. 21801, with brass chain, links three-quarters of an inch long attached; value 30s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Theresa Maria Goldsmith, about thirty-six years of age, 5 feet 3 inches high, stout build,, fresh complexion, brown hair, of intemperate habits.

Stolen about the 3rd instant, from the tent of William James, at Balclutlia, a pair of blue blankets, a small hole in centre of one, and a dark tweed shirt; value 30s. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to James Nichols and two other men known as “Jim” and “ Charley first, supposed to be a native of Australia, a labourer, twenty-two years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, sandy hair, small whiskers, wore dark tweed coat, moleskin trousers, black wideawake hat, and watertight boots ; second, supposed to be a native of Sydney, a labourer, twenty-one years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, slight build, swarthy complexion, brown hair, little (if any) whiskers, wore black tweed coat and trousers ; third, supposed to he a Canadian, a labourer, fiftyfive years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, swarthy complexion, black hair, whiskers, and moustache, upper part

of cheeks shaved; wore blue pilot coat, moleskin trousers, and black billycock hat. They left Balclutlia by train for Dunedin.

On the 4th instant, the hut of Richard Thomas, at Weatherspoon, near Oxford, was broken into and . the following stolen:Two £L notes on the bank of New Zealand, a halfsovereign, and 9s. in silver. -

Wymond and Co. draper’s shop, at Blenheim, was broken into, and the following stolen: —Four £1 notes, £8 in silver, and a Government cheque (Telegraph Department) for £lO 8. 4d., No. 5910. Suspicion attached to William Harding, English, thirty-five years of age, 5 ; feet 8 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, sandy beard and whiskers, ■ wore double-breasted moleskin jacket and moleskin trousers. < . .

Stolen on the 30th ultimo, from the person ox Mrs. Richmond Biddell, at an auction mart in Grafton Road, Auckland, a buckskin purse containing five £5 notes and three £1 notes on the Bank of New Zealand, and 2s. in silver. Purse'only identifiable.

Stolen about the 23rd ultimo, from the Club Hotel, ; Timaru, a ladies’ mother-of-pearl 'card-case, about four inches square, containing a small book lined with purple silk; a mother-of-pearl purse mounted with silver, about three inches long, closes ■with ordinary spring, containing a three half-penny piece with several coins attached, the property of Alfred John Parsons. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Robert Littlecot, who was employed as boots in the hotel. G. Beamish; value £6 Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Florence Kelly and man name unknown. First— a shoemaker, thirty-nine years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high, dark brown hair* thin

features, weak legs, clean shaved except goatee and moustache ; had been in the 57th Regiment. Second, a shoemaker, forty years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache turning grey. They went towards Wanganui. Kelly was sentenced at the District Court, New Plymouth, on the 11th March, 1875, to three years’ labour for an indecent assault on a girl under 'twelve years of age, and was discharged from gaol on the 10th April last.
