In November 1952 about half of this 4-acre paddock at Murchison was mole drained by a system of minor moles pulled at 16 in. depth. Spear junctions to major moles were made at 20 in. depth. Since then the farmer has continued to manage the paddock as one block. In one season it was shut for hay and the drained area yielded 11 bales, whereas an equivalent area on the undrained block gave only 2 bales.
