[Department of Scientific and Industrial Research A typical landscape south-west of Napier. The soils are fairly fertile yellow-grey earths with compact subsoils. They have received very little topdressing and ingress of secondary growth is just beginning. A conservative dressing would be 2cwt. of superphosphate per acre every 3 years on the hills and every 2 years on the flat. This type of country can be farmed efficiently without lime.
