This month's cover
Haymaking equipment being taken out on to a paddock on a Thornton (Bap of Plenty) farm is the subject of this month's cover. It has been reproduced from a natural-colour photograph by Atkinson and Finney. In New Zealand hay and silage made from surplus growth of pastures are the most widely used supplementary feeds for stock- Modern harvesting machinery such as the pick-up baler and the tractor with mower-blade attachment have speeded up harvesting Work, making it possible for farmers to save larger areas of pasture and reducing losses resulting from wet weather.
