This month's cover
Though the draught horse has been largely superseded by machinery for cultivation and haulage n>or£ on many New Zealand farms, there seems little livelihood of the farm hack losing its value or its popularity for equestrian sport. , Largely through the riding competitions held by agricultural and pastoral associations, which have engendered pride in performance in the show ring and a desire to improve hack breeding, the love of horses and enthusiasm for good horsemanship have remained a feature of country life. This month's cover has been painted by L. C. Mitchell from a photograph taken by National Publicity Studios on a Taranaki farm. The boxthorn hedge shown on either side of the gateway is the characteristic farm shelter grown throughout Taranaki. •
