These three cottages are typical of many thousands built from the early days to the present. They have two or four rooms in the main part of the house, a verandah across the front, and a lean-to kitchen at the back. Sometimes the roof is high enough for an attic bedroom to be built. This is the kind of cottage described by Hursthouse.
