Installation of Rams An efficient ram. will raise water 30 times the height ■of the fall, though 25 times is the normal limit, and the greatest height to which water is to be raised should not exceed 200 ft. A ram will drive one seventh of the water passing through it four times the height of the fall, or one fourteenth part eight times the height, and so on. While rams will work under a minimum head as low as 18in., the optimum is Bft.. Above 10ft. head the water causes such shock to the valves that they wear quickly. The delivery pipe should be one half the diameter of the drive' pipe, and the drive pipe should be at least 30ft. long and fitted wtih an intake screen. Rams are listed according to size, and the following are the outputs of popular sizes.
