The Agricultural Workers Extension Order (No. 3).
THE Agricultural Workers Extension Order (No. 3) 1938 extends the provision of Part 111 of the Agri - cultural Workers Act, 1936, with the necessary modifications and with the further modifications set out in the Order, to agricultural workers employed in market gardens (including market gardens where soft - fruit is produced) situated in ’ the Canterbury Industrial District. The Order came into force on the 27th June, 1938, and will continue
in operation until the 23rd April, 1939, and thereafter until -a,further’Order is made. ■ The Order contains substantially the same terms as the Agricultural j Workers Extension Order (No. 2) 1938, relating to workers employed in market gardens situated in'. the Wellington and Nelson Industrial Districts, a summary of which appeared in the’June issue of the Journal of Agriculture on page 442; ’ Attention is drawn, however, . to a variation in the rates of wages provision.
The Wellington-Nelson ■ Industrial District Order provides that a male adult worker who, at the date of coming into force of that Order, was in receipt of a wage exceeding £4 per week, should on and from that date receive an increase of not less than 2S. 6d. per. week on his then present wage, whereas the Order under notice merely - provides that an adult male worker who, on the date .of coming into force of the Order, receives wages in : excess of £4 per week shall not have his wages reduced. .
