Strychnine and Grain for Rabbit-poisoning. — The following recipe is supplied by Mr. Guy P. . Chewings, of Mossburn, Southland, who has used it with good results, and considers it an improvement on the commoner method of sprinkling the strychnine on the prepared grain. Materials : 1 oz. powdered strychnine, 1 oz. baking-soda, 1 oz. laundry starch, | oz. saccharine, 1 quart boiling water, 26 lb. grain. Preparation: Dissolve the starch in a little cold water and add to the boiling water ; boil until a clear paste is formed; mix the strychnine, saccharine, and soda with a little cold water and add to the paste, stirring thoroughly until an even creamy mass is formed ; pour this over the grain (good oats or any other available grain), and mix until all grains . are thoroughly coated with the mixture ; spread out to dry, and when thoroughly dry it is ready for use. When feeding rabbits preparatory to poisoning, use either grain alone or grain prepared with the above mixture less the strychnine.
