TESTING OF PUREBRED DAIRY COWS.

Fellowship of the New Zealand Institute. Among those last elected to this fellowship (F.N.Z.lnst.) is Dr. F. W. Hilgendorf, Biologist to the Canterbury Agricultural College, Lincoln. Samples and Specimens for Examination. The Officer in Charge of the Veterinary Laboratory, Wallaceville, wishes again to notify that'specimens are frequently sent to the Laboratory imperfectly marked or not marked at all, making identification difficult and sometimes impossible. In addition to the letter of advice, bottles or other containers should be properly marked, or a note enclosed giving the name and address of sender. ' Control of Piripiri (“Biddy-biddy Small patches of piripiri can be dealt with by skimming with an adze and burning, but this method is, of course,, not practicable where large quantities are growing. Another method of keeping piripiri in check is to . graze the infested land with horses, which are inclined to eat the weed quite readily. Stocking with cattle has the effect of trampling it out to a considerable extent. Cultivation, where it can be carried cut, is the only really effective means of destroying the wee/.. ' .
