KUMARA-PLANTS.

With reference to the notice in last month’s Journal regarding the distribution of surplus kumara-plants from the Tauranga Horticultural Station, several hundred applications were received from different parts of the Dominion. The Manager of the station has sent out a large number of plants, but the available stock is now exhausted, and it has been impossible for him to deal with all the applications. Persons concerned will please accept this notice, as individual replies cannot be sent to all.

Maximum Price of Wheat. — An Order in Council dated the 15th October, 1917, revoked clause 4 of the regulations gazetted in February last, which provided that the maximum prices prescribed for wheat should not apply to the sale of quantities under 50 bushels. Small sales are therefore now on the same price basis as larger deals.

Branding of Wool by Growers. — It is notified by the Controller of the Department of Imperial Government Supplies, for the information of all wool-growers throughout New Zealand, that in accordance with instructions received from the Imperial Army Contracts Wool Department, London, all wool sent by growers to Government woolbrokers ; for valuation and purchase must be branded with the grower’s mark on one end and on one side only of each bale. The brand must be placed on one of the flat sides other words, on . either of the sides of the bale not exposed when the doors of the press are open. Letters and figures appearing in the brand must be not less than 3 in. in height. In any case where the branding of the wool has not been effected by. the owner strictly in accordance with these requirements, the Government woolbroker to whom the wool is forwarded will correct the faulty branding at the expense of the grower. . -
