ROLL OF HONOUR.

Casualties among the New Zealand Forces at the seat of war include two members of the Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce, who were killed in action early in the Dardanelles operations.

Lieutenant Percy T. Emerson, Wellington Mounted Rifles, had been in the service of the Live-stock and Meat Division for nine years. ' The present war was ; not his first experience of active soldiering. He did good service in South Africa, where he obtained a commission in the field.

Lieutenant W. E. F. Flower, 6th Hauraki Rifles, had - been connected with the Fields Division for about four years, and latterly held the position of Fields Inspector at Thames. .

The news of the death of these officers was received with very great regret by their fellow-members of the Department, who also extend their sympathy to the bereaved families.

, A green-manuring experiment conducted in the nursery section mf the Ruakura Farm of Instruction during the past autumn gave a very marked result as regards yield of material. On the 26th March two plots of equal size were sown, one with Emerald ryecorn and. broad beans and the other with Black Hulless barley and horse-beans. Neither plot received any artificial manure. The latter crop threw more than twice the' bulk of green stuff of ; the former, and was ready'for digging under at the end of May.
