Bright Prospects for Marton Jockey Club’s Meeting—Listowel. Probably Contest Classic Events at Egmont Racing Club’s Fixture —Amber Tips Being Treated to Spell —Zola to Race at Trentham. WANGANUI, Monday. Large numbers of racing enthusiasts left here to-day to attend the Manawatu meeting, while the Taranaki gathering has also attracted many. On Saturday next the Marton meeting will be the chief draw, and given fine weather is sure to be very largely attended. The acceptances received for this popular gathering are excellent, and the fixture gives every indication of being a record success. Secretary A. Way reports that the track is in capital order, and some splendid sport should be provided patrons. Admyra put up a rattling good gallop over six furlongs the other day, and appears to be right back to her very best form. In the circumstances she is much fancied for her engagements at Marton, where she has been paid up for in both the hack race and the. Railway Handicap. She is brilliant enough to win either race when able to show her top form. It is said that Affectation is likely to get amongst . the winners again soon. He is in the Marton Cup at a nice weight, and if he can reproduce his best form he will take no end of beating. F. Tilley has Festival, Tame Fox, and Kinsem engaged at Marton. Tame Fox is galloping in good style, and is expected to run a big race in the Cup. Kinsem is on the same mark as Admyra in the Railway, and they are a dangerous pair, though Admyra is probably the speedier when thoroughly tuned up. W. Rayner has nothing engaged at the Manawatu meeting, and only Rose Queen in at Marton. The daughter of King Rufus is looking and going well, but her form this season has not been up to expectations. A race like the Stewards’ Welter, in which she has 8.8, ought to suit her.
Listowel is being kept at steady work. The son of Absurd will probably be seen out next at the Egmont meeting, where he is engaged in the classic events. It is a pity he went muscle sore, as on his Great Northern Guineas performance he must have had a chance in the Derby had he been able to go to Ellerslie. T. Long took All Cerise to Awapuni, where he is hopeful of picking up a race with the All Black filly. She has been moving very nicely lately, and as she can stav she should be heard of in some of her races, either at Awapuni or Marton. Amber Tips has been thrown out of work, the big son of San Fran having contracted a bad cold, which was very unfortunate, as he was hitting out in fine style. Warrawee will be taken to Stratford, where he should be handy in his engagements, as he appears to be galloping as well as ever he did. Mr. James Bull’s horses are all said to be doing good work, and they should win a race or two at the Marton meeting, where Ngata, Omahu, and Ruddy are engaged. Zola continues to steadily regain his form, and should be in capital fix by the time the Wellington summer
meeting comes round, when, all going well, he will be taken to Trentham for the flat events for jumpers.
W. Rayner is still taking Thespian along steadily. The big two-year-old son of Absurd will take some time to get properly well, and it is probable he will not be seen to full advantage until he is three years old.
