TAUMARUNUI RACING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. INDEPENDENCE WINS CUP. The Taumarunui Racing Club have been decidedly unfortunate as regards the weather experienced at their annual gatherings, rain having interfered with three of the four fixtures held by the club, while in the case of the remaining meeting a strong gale was in evidence. and owing to the dust nuisance made it unpleasant for patrons. Last week’s annual fixture at Matapuna was conducted in showery weather, but the improvements effected on the club’s course enabled the large crowd present to enjoy the afternoon’s sport without any serious inconvenience from the elements. Good fields were seen out in the various events, the Cup being contested by half a dozen starters, Independence registering an overdue win from Lovelight by half a length. Mr. Sam. Sarah, the secretary, is to be congratulated upon the thoroughness of all arrangements in ..connection with the fixture, and there is little doubt that the Taumarunui Racing Club is becoming increasingly popular with owners and trainers, quite a large number of horses being railed to the Main Trunk township for last week’s gathering. The totalisator investments totalled £12,497 10s., as against £13,820 at last year’s meeting. The results were as follows: —
