AMERICAN SWIMMER’S PLUCKY ATTEMPT TO SWIM THE ENGLISH CHANNEL. — HENRY SULLIVAN leaving the water when 2½ miles from Cape Blanc Nez, on the French coast. He started at 7.45 p.m. from Shakespeare Beach, Dover, and was taken out of the water at 1.50 p.m. after a gallant struggle of 18hrs. 5 mins., suffering from severe abdominal pains. He was swimming strongly six miles from the French Coast.
