ANNUAL MEETING.

SCRAP O’ PAPER WINS CUP. The Bay of Plenty Jockey Club held their annual meeting at Gate Pah racecourse, Tauranga, on Wednesday last, and though dull and threatening weather prevailed, this did not deter enthusiasts from attending the fixture in strong force, a large number of Aucklanders making the boat trip in order to attend the gathering, which is becoming increasingly popular. Good fields contested the’ majority of the events,, and the racing proved of an enjoyable character, the respective successes of seven fiavourites being popularly received. The sum of £9547 passed through the totalisator, as against £6121 10s. last year, an increase of £3425 10s.

The Tauranga Cup attracted a quartette of starters, and was won by Scrap o’ Paper, who scored a decisive win by three lengths from Royal Irish. Scrap o’ Paper also accounted for the Flying Handicap, the last event on the programme. ' , The gathering was capably managed by the officials, the secretary, Mr. R. D. Long, in particular being entitled to considerable praise for the all - round excellence of the arrangements, tl” races being got off well to time, while the comfort and convenience, of visitors was attended to in a manner that was universally appreciated.
