Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brett returned to Auckland by the Tahiti from Sydney, after an absence of nine months.

Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Odlin, of Island /Bay, returned to Wellington last 'week from a trip to America.

Lieut,-Colonel N. P. Adams, who was Commandant of the Featherston Military Training Camp during the war, returned from a visit to England and America by the Marama.

Dr. H. D. Mackenzie, of Auckland, accompanied by Mrs. Mackenzie,, left by the Marama on a short visit to San Francisco. They expect to return in February.

A cable message states that Sir Charles Fryer, the well-known fisheries expert, died in a London omnibus a few days ago. Sir Charles Fryer took a prominent part in connection with the introduction of trout, and the efforts to acclimatise salmon in New Zealand.

Mr. Daniel Ryan, manager of the Auckland .branch of the HuddartParker Company, Limited, died suddenly on Tuesday week at his residence, Silver Road, Epsom. He had only recently returned from a tour of Australia. He leaves a widow and five young children.

Mr. J. J. Boak, who has represented Messrs. Macky, Logan, Ltd.,' as buyer for the firm in England for over sixteen years, has returned to New Zealand.

Mr. William McCullough, who bought the “Thames Star” nearly half a century ago, has parted with his interest in that journal to a local syndicate that will carry on business under the style of the Thames Printing Company.

Mr. T. H. Harley, late brewer of Nelson, who is well-known in racing circles through his association with the late Mr. Henry Redwood, the father of the New Zealand turf, having owned Black Rose, Redwood and other horses, is at present on a holiday visit to Auckland, accompanied by Mrs. Harley. They are staying with Dr. Coldicutt, and will remain in Auckland until Christmas. Mr. Harley, who is now approaching his 80th year, being born at Nelson in 1842, is still enjoying the best of health.
