A party of motorists had a miraculous escape when proceeding down the Gentle Annie road to Gisborne. When a short distance above the water trough, the car skidded and made for the bank. The driver, with commendable presence of mind, immediately turned the front wheels straight ahead, and the car went headlong down the bank and through a fence. Luckily no one was injured. The driver, instead of securing a team of horses to pull the car back, took it down the rest of the hill, which was fairly steep, and came out on the Toad further down, by way of a paddock. By straightening the car up and steering it headlong off the road the driver saved it from toppling over and capsizing.
