WHANGAREI JOCKEY CLUB.

Mr. F. McManemin got out the handicaps for the Whangarei meeting promptly to time, and the acceptances are due on Friday. It is needless to say that on the opening day (Wednesday next) the fields will be very good, given only the ordinary percentage of acceptors. It is hard to say how many 6.7 riders will be produced at the gathering, but in the Mania Handicap, run over five furlongs, 20 of the 38 entrants are in at that weight, and seven more below 7.0. Spanner (10.2) is top weight, Golden Bubble and Arran each have 9.1, and Lord Kenilworth 8.8. In the Whangarei Cup Uncle Ned has 9.9, Glen Canny 9.2, Gold Kip 8.13. There are eight in with 6.7, and a dozen below Woody Glen (7.3), and he and Sir Ralph on the same mark read as good as any of those engaged. The Nursery Handicap has been started with Namutere, and has been well thought out. Smoke Concert, on her track deeds, may be well fancied.
