NEW ZEALAND AMATEUR BILLIARD CHAMPIONSHIP.

WARREN REGAINS THE TITLE. The amateur billiard championship of the Dominion was recently decided in Wellington, the games being played in Messrs. Alcock and Company's wellequipped showroom, on a neutral table, with a new match set of balls. There were ten entries as follows: Warren. Fredatovitch, Roberts, Mathias and Wakem (Auckland), Tucker, Williams, and Telford (Wellington), Scriyner (Wanganui), a.nd Seidelberg (Dunedin). The games were played under the new rules, which only allow one miss, and much safety play of a high order was shown. The new table ran slowly, owing to the cold weather, and was against losing hazard play, so that more all-round billiards was witnessed than is usual in this event. . The semi-final between Warren and Seideberg caused great interest, Warren, owing to his better top-of-the-table work, winning by 133 points. The final between Warren and Fredatovitch was fought with grim determination, and the latter was applauded for his plucky showing against his redoubtable opponent, who won by 23 < points. Warren's victory was not unexpected, as he had already won the Weston tournament and Sports Club championship in Auckland. He made the best break of the tournament, an effort of 92. This is the third occasion on which he has won the event. The Auckland Sports Club, who represent the British Billiard Association, have in hand a big charity tournament, in which both professionals and amateurs will take part. As it is a handicap event, and the cream of the Auckland players (both professional and amateur) are taking part, it should (prove a most notable event, and a high standard of billiards will be seen. All profits are to be equally divided between Sister Esther and the little Sister of the Poor, and there is no doubt the sportsmen of Auckland will rally round this deserving object. The Sports Club are selling season tickets for the event, which will run two daily sessions for three weeks, and can be purchased at a pound. The event starts on Monday, August 2.
