Mr. J. D. O’Hara, of “Lightnin’ ” fame, returns to Sydney in June, and will open at the Criterion in “Three Wise Fools,” which is now drawing large audiences in London.
Another cinema combine is reported to have purchased a property fronting Castlereagh and Elizabeth streets. Sydney, for the purpose of erecting a palatial theatre to seat 3500 persons. The project will involve an expenditure of £200,000.
Mr. Victor Beck is in Auckland arranging for the opening of the English Pierrots on Saturday. It is worth noting that the Pierrots performed at St. Kilda, Victoria, over 2500 times, Perth over 600, Wellington over 100, and Auckland over 50 times, a modest estimate of attendances of more than 1,000,000 patrons. * * * *
Miss Madoline Knight, who has established herself as a warm favourite in the hearts of the New Zealand public by her charming and artistic vocal powers, has received by cable a most tempting offer to join the big Australian touring combination known as The Huxham Serenaders. Miss Knight has accepted, and will leave Auckland for Sydney next Thursday to fulfil her engagement. The management required a high-class mezzo soprano, and in the young Aucklander they have made a happy choice.
