A. J. McFlinn has been having a rare innings in classic races. The Northern Champagne on Humbug, the Trentham and Awapuni Gold Cups on Amythas, and the Manawatu and Hawke’s Bay Stakes races came his way last month. In the Manawatu Stakes he effected the defeat of Amythas on the Achilles mare Silver Link and in. the Hawke’s Bay Stakes beat Humbug with the same mare.
A number of sportsmen were held up in Auckland during the railwaymen’s strike, and one, Mr. Bennett, of Patea, owner of Khartoum, who would not undertake a sea journey, however short, was anxiously waiting for the resumption of the running of the trains so that he could get back to Taranaki round by way of Marton.
