HAWKE’S BAY.

Waipukurau J.C.’s Improvements Members of J. Oldfield’s String— Teka and Athens 11. Still on Easy List—Taranaki' Owner’s Enterprise. NAPIER, Monday. At a meeting of the Waipukurau Jockey Club, held on' the racecourse grounds on Tuesday morning, a which Mr. G. Hunter, M.P., presided, plans and estimates for improvements on a modern scale were approved. These include a new grandstand, luncheon rooms, kitchen, jockeys room, weighing room, totalisator house, secretary’s office, and stewards’ stand. The club has decided upon these improvements in order to cope with the increased patronage received. . The Woodville Jockey Club, have appointed a sub-committee to enquire into the probability of providing and working the totalisator in connection with their meetings by the club. After the Hawke’s Bay meeting Mr G. Hunter, of Porangahau, is ueiiding down from Porangahau to Hastings several youngsters by Crown Imperial 11. Their owner-breeder informed me that they are likely-look-ing juveniles, and he anticipates a successful future for them. Mr. F. Armstrong does not intend to make a long stay in England, for which destination he leaves Auckland early next month, for during a conversation that I had with him last week he told me that he expects to be back in the Dominion in about six months’ time. Sabranell, a coming three-year-old full-sister to ’ Heather Sprig (Heather Mixture- —La Sabine), is being put through her facings by J. Oldfied at Greenmeadows. This educator also has in work Heather Sprig, Fife and Drum, and Bonnie Heather, and in a short time he will put Sweet Corn into commission again. In the future Munus, the coming two-year-old full-brother to the Aus-tralian-owned Bright Night, Demagogue, Hepta, Hendra and Miss Girons, will race in the partnership interests of Mrs. M. A. Perry and the Perry Trust. Teka and Athens 11. are still resting, and from the looks of the former it would appear as if his racing days had ended. It was intended that Amythas would be' seen out in action in the J. D. Ormond Cup next ■ Thursday at Hastings, but owing to the death of Mr. F. Easton’s son the locally-bred son of Demosthenes and Gold Treasure will be an absentee from the gathering. Sid. Reid, who is at present attending to the education of Parisian Diamond and Asterina for Mr. G. D. Beatson, and the colts by Martian--Snowstell and Martian —Crimson Rose for Mr. B. Joll, of Taranaki, leaves Hastings in September to occupy the position of private trainer for Mr. Joll, who is having an extensive training establishment erected in his home town.
