GISBORNE RACING CLUB.
STEEPLECHASE MEETING
The programme of the Gisborne Racing Club’s steeplechase meeting is to hand, and is one that should meet with the unanimous approval of racehorse owners. This East Coast club has not been sparing in expense to attract a good class of horses to its winter 'fixture,' having increased the value of several events —mainly to the advantage of the hack class —on both days of the meeting, which takes place on June 10 and 12 next. On the opening day the Gisborne Steeplechase (three miles), of 400sovs., is down fox’ decision, other jumping events on the first day being the Tramway Hack Steeplechase (two miles), of 200sovs., and the Park Hurdles (two miles), of 250sovs. Of the flat events the Winter Oats Handicap (1% miles) carries an increase of 50sovs, compared with last year, being worth 25050v5., and the sprinters are catered for with the Flying Handicap (six furlongs), of 200sovs. The two hack events, the Maiden Hack and the Hack Flat Handicap are worth 150sovs. and 200sovs. respectively, increases of 25sovs. and 50sovs. On the second day the Te Hapara Steeplechase ((22y 2 miles), of 25050v5., is the premier event, while the Turanganui Steeples (two miles),
of 200sovs., and the Gisborne Hurdles (1% miles), of 200sovs., are also at the disposal of the jumping brigade. The Farewell Handicap (six furlongs), of 200sovs. (an increase of 50sovs.), and Waikanae Handicap (one mile), of 200sovs., and for the hack division the Maiden Hack Handicap (five furlongs), of 150sovs. (increase of 25sovs.), and the Second Hack Flat (six furlongs, of 200sovs. (increase of 50sovs.), make up a very attractive card. Nominations for all events close on Friday, May 21, while handicaps for the first day will be declared on May 28.
