IMPORTED THOROUGHBREDS.
On Friday night, four English - bred mares (referred to last week), and the English-bred sire and racehorse, Snow King, arrived at Ellerslie by train from Wellington, where they were landed from Sydney on Tuesday morning from the Riverina. The mares are Lady Mareca (19), by The Gull, sire of Lone Gull, dame of Victrola, winner ■of the A.J.C. December Stakes, dam Lady William, by William Rufus, dam Mareca, half sister to Woodbury, dam of The Welkin. Ladysmock (2), also foaled in 1912. is by Myram (son of Flying Fox, sire of The Welkin and Airs and Grace, dam of the Derby winner Jardy and half sister to St. Alwyne, sire of Poitrel, Lady Medallist, etc.), dam Lady of the Night, by Sir Charles, son of Pero Gomez, winner of St. Leg-er and Ascot Derby, dam Nosegay, by Silver, son of Sterling, from Aromatic, by Macaroni, 2000 Guineas and Derby, from Incense, by Hermit. Marie O’dile (25) is a chestnut mare, foaled in 1914, got by St. Amant,. winner of Derby, 2000 Guineas, Jockey Club Stakes (10.3) and 23,93950 vs in stakes and sire of numerous good horses, dam Hungry Bird, by Missel Thrush, son of Orme and the St. Leger winner Throstle, from Hungry, by Kisber (Derby and Grand Prix de Paris) from Plevna, by Lord Clifden. Marie O’dile, like Lady Mareca, is a winner. The three mares named are in foal to Snow King. Yes (9) is a brown mare, foaled in 1914, got by Valens, son of Laveno, dam Aye Aye, a winner in England, beating .at two years old Dutch Courage, Bronzino and Cardinal Beaufort, by Flying Lemur, own brother to Flying Fox (winner of about 40,000sovs and sire of The Welkin), from Columbian, sister to Darley Dale, winner of the Eclipse Stakes and sire of winners of over 60,000sovs, by St. Simon from Ismay, by Isonomy from St. Alvere, half sister to Peregrine (2000 Guineas). Yes comes from the same family as Cyllene, Commotion, Mentor, Wakeful, Class, La Notte, Noctuiform, Midnight Sun, Bon Reve, Eligible. Mountain Knight, Radnor, etc. This is the best staying family in Australasia. These mares are located near Ellerslie, as also is Snow King, and are to be sold shortly.
