HAWKE'S BAY JOCKEY CLUB.

AUTUMN MEETING. To hand is the programme of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s autumn meeting, due to take place on Wednesday and Thursday, April 28 and 29 on the Hastings course. Some very respectable increases are noticeable in the stake money compared with last year, which should further contribute to the success of this usually well-patronised fixture. On the opening day the premier event, the Hawke’s Bay Cup (handicap), 1% miles, has been endowed with lOOOsovs., an increase of 300sovs., while the Longlands Welter Hack Handicap, once round, and Poukawa Hack Handicap, six furlongs, both carry 175sovs. as against 150sovs. last year. Another substantial increase is noticed in the Hawke’s Bay Stakes, 6% furlongs, which has hitherto been run on the second day.

year been allotted 700sovs. instead of 500sovs. The remaining events are the Mangatarata Handicap Hurdie Race, 1% miles, of 17550v5.; Nursery Handicap, five furlongs, of 200sovs. (for two-year-olds); Autumn Handicap, once round, of 200sovs.; and the Porangah.au Handicap, six furlongs, of 300sovs.

On the second day the J. D. Ormond Memorial Cup, one mile, is the principal attraction. This is a weight-for-age event of 75550v5., in addition to which the winner takes a cup valued at 100 guineas. The Burke Memorial Stakes, 1% miles, 55050v5., and Juvenile Handicap, five furlongs, 400sovs., show increases of 150sovs. and 200sovs. respectively. The hacks have also again participated in the benefits, as the Okawa Hack Handicap, once round, of 17550v5., and the Akitio Hack Handicap, six furlongs, of 17550v5., have both 25sovs. added to their value, while the Farewell Handicap, six furlongs, of SOOsovs., shows an increase of 50sovs. The Karamu Handicap Hurdle Race, 1% miles, of 17550v5., and the Ohitu Handicap, once round, of 200sovs., complete a very attractive programme.
