Nightraider, the three-year-old son of Martian —Glenowlet, registered his best performance to date when he acted as runner-up to Amythas in the Dunedin Cup, despite the fact that the latter made a runaway victory of the event. On his form in the Cup, Nightraider appeared likely to take a prominent part in the settlement of the Dunedin Jockey Club Handicap • (one mile and a-quarter) on the concluding day at Wingatui, but though he put in a good run over the last half of the journey the best he could do was to finish fourth. The Chokebore colt gives promise of turning out a useful stayer, and may make his presence felt in handicaps from a mile and a-half to two miles next season.
